Trinity Student Natalie Stephenson Wins Prestigious Teaching Award

natalie-stephenson_web.jpgNatalie Stephenson, a student in Trinity's School of Education and a language arts teacher at Kenmoor Middle School in Landover, Maryland, has been selected to receive The Washington Post’s 2008 Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher Award for Prince George’s County. The Agnes Meyer Award is presented annually to one teacher from each Washington metropolitan area school district. Full Article

shafer_sharon_web.jpgDr. Sharon Guertin Shafer, Trinity professor of music presented this year's keynote remarks to the Washington, D.C., Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota, an international music organization for women. Her remarks, "Women Breaking the Glass Ceiling: From Domestic Music to Pulitzer Prize Compositions," celebrates the many pathbreaking contributions of women to the rich history of music. Paula Lettice '71 Presents Keynote Remarks at Pi Sigma Alpha Induction Ceremony: “Practice Your Degree – Take It with You and Live It”

lettice-paula.jpgTrinity graduate and Trustee Paula Lettice '71, chief financial officer for the Architect of the U.S. Capitol, gave the keynote remarks, “Practice Your Degree – Take It with You and Live It,” at the induction ceremony for the Trinity chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the political science honor society. She also was inducted as an honorary member of Trinity's chapter at the ceremony on April 23, 2008. She spoke to the Trinity students inducted into Pi Sigma Alpha and their guests about the importance of being an engaged citizen and emphasized the value of ethical decision making. Full Article

Trinity Students Inducted into Pi Sigma Alpha, Political Honor Society

Four students were inducted as full members into Trinity's chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honor society, and six were inducted as associate members at a ceremony on April 24, 2008. Paula Lettice '71, chief financial officer of the Architect of the U.S. Capitol, was inducted as an honorary member of the Chapter and gave the keynote remarks to the new inductees. Dr. Shelley Tomkin, professor of political science and advisor to the chapter, presided over the ceremonies. President McGuire gave closing remarks. Full Article

President McGuire Testifies Before Senate Committee on the Impact of the Credit Crunch on Student Loans

Trinity President Patricia McGuire testified before the Senate Banking Committee on April 15, 2008, regarding the impact of the credit crunch on the student loan market and college students. The Committee hearing was convened to address the growing concern regarding the impact of the ongoing credit market crisis on the cost and availability of federally-guaranteed and private student loans. popephoto-copy.jpgThe Trinity community joyously welcomes our beloved Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, on the occasion of his historic visit to our nation's capitol. Trinity students, faculty, staff and alumnae are looking forward to participating in the mass at Washington Nationals Stadium, and seeing the Pope during his driving routes near Trinity's campus. Christina Tilghman, a student in Trinity's program at THEARC, is participating in the Washington Archdiocese Gospel Choir, which will be singing during the mass. Full Article

Trinity President Patricia McGuire will participate in a meeting with Pope Benedict XVI on Thursday, April 17, at which he will be addressing presidents of 200 Catholic colleges and universities, and education leaders from 195 dioceses from across the country. Full Article
