Three Trinity Graduates Named to Washingtonian Magazine's List of 100 Most Powerful Women
Trinity President Patricia McGuire '74, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi '62, and Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius '70 were named to Washingtonian magazine's list of "Washington's 100 Most Powerful Women" in the October 2009 issue. Both President McGuire and Secretary Sebelius are featured with a photo and a quote.
President McGuire is listed in the education arena, and in response to the question, "What is the best career advice you ever received?" she says, "A good career is a series of well-managed coincidences." Secretary Sebelius is listed in the category of national powers. She is asked, "What career advice would you give a young woman?" and she replies, "Find a good mentor who believes in you. Dump friends — including boyfriends — who don't." Speaker Pelosi is listed in the category of the most powerful women on Capitol Hill.
In August, both Speaker Pelosi and Secretary Sebelius were named to the Forbes magazine list of the "World's 100 Most Powerful Women."
Two Trinity trustees were also named to the Washingtonian list of Washington's "100 Most Powerful Women": DC Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Barbara Lang is honored in the category of business, and Terri Lee Freeman, President of the Community Foundation for the National Capital Region, is featured in the category of advocacy and nonprofit organizations.
