Journalist and Trinity Graduate Jonetta Rose Barras '96 to Speak at Commencement

barras.jpgJournalist, author and Trinity graduate Jonetta Rose Barras '96 will be the 2008 Commencement speaker, announced President Patricia McGuire. Barras, who will receive an honorary doctor of letters,  earned her undergraduate degree from Trinity through the Weekend College program, which is now part of the School of Professional Studies. Trinity's 105th Commencement will be held on the main lawn on Sunday, May 18. Nearly 400 undergraduate and graduate degrees will be awarded. Full Article

Dean Suellen Meara Testifies on Improving Teacher Education in the District of Columbia

suellen_meara.jpgDr. Suellen Meara, Dean of Trinity's School of Education, testified before the D.C. State Board of Education on March 12, 2008, about proposed new requirements for teacher certification in the District. She stressed the importance of providing an initial time of “guided practice” for beginning teachers while they are taking their education classes and pledged Trinity's support to the D.C. State Board of Education and D.C. Public Schools to enhance teacher education and improve the academic success of the children of the District of Columbia. Full Article
