Scholar-athletes from high schools in the District of Columbia were honored during an awards ceremony that kicked off the 16th annual celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day. This year, the Women's Sports Foundation program celebrated the 30th anniversary of Title IX. The day after the awards programs, Trinity participated in a luncheon on Capitol Hill with members of Congress and the Senate, honoring the achievements of women athletes and paying tribute to the positive impact of Title IX.

In addition to King, more than a dozen champion women athletes participated in the awards program at Trinity, including Olympic soccer champion Julie Foudy, and two-time Olympic gold medalists in softball, Lisa Fernandez and Dot Richardson, M.D.
