RE: Commencement 2004

Hard to believe that another Commencement looms on our horizon.... but May 23 will be here very soon! This year's commencement truly launches Trinity's Second Century —- the Class of 1904 was our very first graduating class, and so the Class of 2004 becomes our 101st graduating class —- and both are Red Classes! Congratulations to our seniors!

Much more detailed information will be forthcoming from Dean Bowie's Office, the Registrar, the Academic Vice President and the Deans. Seniors, please pay very careful attention to all of the announcements and directions. Commencement is a wonderful time, but there are many details that contribute to making the day memorable.

I am pleased to announce our Honoree and Speaker for the 101st Commencement. Since this year is also the Bicentennial of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, we felt it would be particularly appropriate to salute the SNDs by honoring one SND whose lifetime of service and commitment truly exemplifies the mission of St. Julie Billiart as well as the values of Trinity College.

Ann Kendrick, SND, is a member of Trinity's Class of 1966, and she is also her class president. Upon her graduation from Trinity, Ann decided to join the Sisters of Notre Dame and to work in their ministry to the poor. About 20 years ago, Ann and several other SNDs founded the Farmworker Ministry in Apopka, Florida, near Orlando, in the fields where migrant workers and their families tend to the crops thatfill many American plates. Over the years, the Farmworker Ministry has grown to a major social service center including a health clinic, credit union, legal and advocacy services, and a broad range of other services for Florida's agricultural workers.

In September 2003, the magazine "Good Housekeeping" ran an article about Sr. Ann. You can read the article by clicking on the link below:

Please join me in congratulating our seniors and Sr. Ann Kendrick. I look forward to celebrating with everyone at Commencement!
