Gives Commencement Address

Washington, D.C. - Trinity College
presented an honorary doctorate to Joan
A. Payden at the College's 100th Commencement
on Sunday, May 18, 2003; Ms. Payden also gave the
Commencement Address to the graduates. Ms. Payden,
a graduate of Trinity College, is president and
chief executive officer of Payden
& Rygel, the global investment management
firm she founded in 1983. The firm, headquartered
in Los Angeles with offices in London and Frankfurt,
currently manages assets of $50 billion. Payden
& Rygel also has a joint venture with Metzler
Bank, the oldest private bank in Germany. Prior
to establishing Payden & Rygel, Ms. Payden served
as the West Coast Managing Director of Scudder,
Stevens & Clark. She is past chairman of the
Investment Counsel Association of America. |

"Ms. Payden's career and lifetime accomplishments
exemplify Trinity's mission in the education and advancement
of women for leadership," said President McGuire. "Beyond
her success as an entrepreneur and corporate leader,
Ms. Payden has also lent her time and expertise to numerous
charitable boards and organizations, including serving
on Trinity's Board of Trustees. She has been generous
to Trinity with her time and resources, and is thrilled
to be able to share Commencement Day with our graduates."
President McGuire added, "She is known internationally
as a highly respected and successful investment counselor
and businesswoman."
Ms. Payden has been a resident and active member of
the Los Angeles business community for 30 years. She
is a member of the Board of Directors of AECOM Technology
Corporation, Automobile Club of Southern California
and the California Chamber of Commerce. In addition,
she serves on the Board of the UCLA Anderson School
of Business and is a trustee of the University of Southern
California and Occidental College. She has directed
the firm in many community activities including scholarships
for education and support for the local art community.
Ms. Payden is a chartered financial analyst. She graduated
from Trinity College with a bachelor's degree in mathematics
and physics, and is a graduate of Harvard Business School's
Advanced Management program.

TRINITY magazine.
More than 250 graduates received diplomas at Trinity
College's Centennial Commencement ceremonies. Trinity
College is a comprehensive university in Washington,
D.C., offering a full range of undergraduate and graduate
programs for students of all ages, with a special emphasis
on women's education in the College of Arts and Sciences,
and professional development in the coeducational School
of Professional Studies and School of Education.
