Trinity College proudly announces the establishment of the
Trinity Institute for Women’s Leadership, an academic center
devoted to teaching, learning and research on issues of concern
to women, as well as the leadership dynamics necessary to influence
the future conversation about those issues in both public and
private arenas.
As the only woman-centered university in the nation’s capital,
Trinity has a particular sense of responsibility to ensure that
women are effectively educated to participate in shaping the
policies and programs that will impact their children, families
and communities in the future. Trinity also takes as its special
mission the commitment to educate women for significant leadership
roles in corporations, public and private civic associations,
and public office, both elected and appointed.
The Trinity Institute will carry out Trinity’s educational
commitments in these ways:
- Lectureships and symposia on issues such as health care,
Social Security and Medicare,
educational reform, pay equity and equal protection in the
workplace, Title IX, international women’s education and human
rights policy, and similar public policy topics of particular
concern
to women, children and families;
- Education and training programs specifically designed to
promote women’s organizational and advocacy skills, focusing
on grassroots organizing, community participation, media and
communications, lobbying and campaign management;
- Summer workshops and extended programs for high school
girls interested in leadership
development, including internships in the federal sector;
- Using the special advantages of the presence of the federal
sector in Washington, conducting
workshops and training programs for women from around the
nation who wish to learn more
about the link between state and local government, and federal
policies and funding;
- Special topics programming focusing on agencies or organizations
that affect particular issues,
for example, NIH and women’s health organizations, EPA and
urban environmental concerns, AARP and retirement security,
and similar focused programs.
The Trinity Institute is a non-partisan academic center welcoming
robust conversation, constructive debate and broad thinking
about contemporary issues and policies of interest to women,
and ways to build women’s leadership capacity nationally and
internationally. Trinity invites funding partners to sponsor
programs and events for the Institute, and opportunities to
establish named chairs, lectureships and scholarship funds are
also available.
