Letter to the Senior Class from the Dean of Students

September 5, 2007

Dear Trinity Senior:

Trinity is preparing to formally welcome the Red class of 2008 to senior status during Cap and Gown Weekend September 28 - September 30, 2007.

Please note that only seniors in good standing are eligible to participate in the Cap and Gown Ceremony. Students on probation will be considered ineligible. If you are uncertain of your academic status or eligibility to participate, please contact the Registrar, Camilo Garcia.

Seniors should come to rehearsal on Friday, September 28, 2007 at 5:30 p.m. in the Trinity Center.

The yearbook staff has arranged to have a photographer in the Rose Parlor on Friday, September 28, 2007 from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. for your senior portraits. This means that you should bring your cap, gown and stocks with you to Trinity on Friday if you wish to take senior portraits.

One of the unique features of the Trinity community is the wearing of the traditional stock with your cap and gown. Stocks, which are a required part of the undergraduate regalia, may be purchased for $20 (cash or check payable to Trinity) in the Dean of Student Services Office, Main 123. Seniors will robe for the first time at the Convocation on Saturday, please bring cap, gown and stocks.

Caps and gowns may be purchased through the Trinity Bookstore on Monday, September 24 and Tuesday, September 25, 12 noon to 6:00 p.m.  The cost for a cap, gown and tassel is $26.75.  You may also purchase stocks from the Dean of Student Services Office (Main 125) at these times.  Stocks are $20.00 payable by cash or check.

This year's festivities will begin with the Sower's Seed lecture on Friday, September 28 at 7:00 p.m. in Notre Dame Chapel, which will be given by freelance journalist Amy Costello ‘92. Cap and Gown Convocation will take place on Saturday, September 29, 2007 at 5:00 p.m. in the Trinity Center. Students, faculty, and distinguished guests will highlight the Convocation program.  We are especially pleased to welcome D.C. Public Schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee, who will be our keynote speaker at the Convocation.  There will be a President's Reception after the Cap and Gown Convocation on Saturday and a brunch for seniors, their families, their guests, and faculty after the Cap and Gown ceremony on Sunday.

Please complete the RSVP form for the weekend's events by Wednesday, September 26, 2007. The cost of Brunch for guests is $10 per person and payment should be brought to the Dean of Student Services Offices, Main 123.

Immediately following brunch is the traditional Courtyard Sing. Each class will gather on a designated area of Seymour Court and sing songs to the Senior Class. Families and friends are invited to enjoy the celebration.

I hope that you and your family will be able to join us for these very special occasions. If you have any questions concerning these events, please feel free to call my office (202) 884-9611. I look forward to celebrating with you.

Congratulations!

Sincerely,

Michele Bowie
