Washington, D.C. - As Catholics around the world mourn the death
of Pope John Paul II and reflect on his life and legacy, the Trinity
community remembers the Pope in a very special way. On October 7,
1979, the Pope blessed the Trinity campus, and led an ecumenical
prayer service in Trinity’s Notre Dame Chapel with leaders
of the Protestant, Eastern Orthodox and Jewish faiths and other
non-Christian religions. He also met with and individually blessed
persons with disabilities during his historic visit to campus. Click

“The Pope’s visit to campus was a very spiritual experience,
and we are particularly proud that he chose Trinity’s Notre
Dame Chapel to lead an ecumenical prayer service,” notes Patricia
McGuire, who was on campus that day and today is president of Trinity. (Read President McGuire's message to the community:
Trinity Mourns the Death of Pope John Paul II.)
Trinity honored the Pope’s extraordinary life and leadership
in a special Liturgy on April 6, in Notre Dame Chapel on Trinity’s
campus.
