Congressman Sanders
Speaks with Trinity Students
“The State of the Union: An Independent Perspective”
February 10, 2005
Congressman
Bernard Saunders (I-VT) spoke with more than 100 Trinity students,
faculty and staff about current issues facing this country. Sanders,
who describes himself as a socialist and is the lone independent
member of the House of Representatives, offered a substantive assessment
of the Bush administration. “The State of the Union: An Independent
Perspective” was a highly interactive session with the Congressman
that covered a wide range of issues including the health care crisis,
wealth distribution, child care, higher education, foreign policy
and the war in Iraq. He encouraged students to engage in the political
process and to participate in issues at the grassroots level.
