April, 2004: The Trinity Center for Women and Girls in Sports has been selected as a finalist in the Washington Business Journal’s Best Real Estate Deals of 2003. The Trinity Center, opened on Trinity College’s campus in early 2003, was selected as one of three finalists in the Special Use Facility category in the Washington Business Journal’s annual Best Real Estate Deals. The winners in each of the 16 categories will be announced at a dinner on April 29, 2004.
The Trinity Center for Women and Girls in Sports is a $20 million state-of-the-art athletic, recreational and educational complex in the heart of Trinity College’s campus in northeast Washington. The Trinity Center is the largest facility in the nation dedicated to women and girls in sports, and provides athletic facilities to Trinity’s students, faculty and staff, as well as residents in the neighboring community and D.C. youth participating in organized recreational, sports and educational programs conducted by partner organizations, including the Girl Scout Council of the Nation's Capital, DC Scores, Washington Tennis and Educational Foundation and D.C. Public Schools.
The Trinity Center athletic complex includes an athletic field, outdoor tennis courts, and the Trinity Center building that houses a 1700-seat basketball arena, swimming pool and spa, walking track, locker rooms, fitness center and classroom. The Trinity Center’s Palladian windows, red tile roof and columns echo the architectural themes of Trinity’s campus.
Financed through the D.C. Revenue Bond program, the Trinity Center is part of the economic
renaissance in the Ward 5/Brookland community in Northeast Washington. The Trinity Center is already fulfilling Trinity’s commitment to serve the community: more than 20,000 people have participated in programs in the Trinity Center since it opened – from senior citizens taking aerobics and yoga to families from the surrounding neighborhood enjoying a swim, from D.C. schoolchildren participating in the DC Scores soccer festival to Girl Scouts earning their swimming badges. The Trinity Center is a vibrant addition to the campus and to the Washington community.
The Trinity Center for Women and Girls in Sports is Washington’s newest special event venue and is minutes from Capitol Hill and downtown. Recent and upcoming special events include a black-tie dinner for 900 sponsored by Freddie Mac and the Washington Council of Governments, retirement reception for the president of Verizon-Washington, press conference and practice site for the Michael Jordan Capital Classic, Archdiocese of Washington teacher job fair and the first YWCA Girls Sport Expo.
