Baltimore - Trinity College (17-9) outscored the College of Notre Dame of Maryland 51-32 in the second half Friday night, overcoming a 17-point half-time deficit to beat the Gators 70-68 in the semifinals of the Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference Basketball Championships.

Trinity Tigers' Bonita Winchester-Bey hit two free throws with 23 seconds to play, putting the Tigers up four.

Notre Dame (16-10) scored with 12 seconds to play to cut the Trinity lead to two, then missed a driving lay-up with seconds left to seal the win for Trinity.

Trinity freshman Alicia Hopkins scored 14 of her 16 points in the second half to lead Trinity.

Notre Dame held Trinity to 26.5-percent shooting in the first half, taking a 36-19 lead. The Tigers, however, roared back in the second half, and shot 48.7-percent and outrebounded Notre Dame 29-18.

The Tigers' win advanced Trinity to the AWCC Conference Championship game for the first time. The Trinity College-Hood College Conference Championship Game, played at the College of Notre Dame on Saturday, March 1, was very close: both teams were within 2-3 points of each other for the entire match. While Hood College emerged the victor in the final minute (61-58) Trinity's team played a competitive game.

"Watching our players demonstrate their best, sustained effort was a point of pride for all of the many Trinity fans and families who traveled to Baltimore to witness this great game," said President Patricia McGuire. (President Congratulates the Trinity Tigers)

Coach Christy Neff and Assistant Coach Kurtis Cross guided the Trinity team to its unprecendented berth in the final Championship game. This year marks the first season that the Trinity Tigers played in the new Trinity Center for Women and Girls in Sports. The team played less than half the season in the Trinity Center and, next year, when Trinity plays a full season in the new facility, the Tigers are expecting an even stronger showing.
