Trinity Celebrates Founders' Day!

April 18, 2002

In honor of the courageous founders of Trinity College, the entire Trinity community participated in a day full of fun and celebratory events on Thursday, April 18.

A Trinity tradition that dates back to the first academic year in the spring of 1901, the day included a Founders' Day prayer service, a BBQ Picnic Lunch and the annual Maypole Dance in Seymour Court. Other festivities included caricatures, volleyball, a faculty/staff vs. students Tug-o-War (faculty/staff won!), and a lively softball game. The day ended with a special awards dinner honoring students' academic and service achievements, and Founders' Day remarks by President Patricia McGuire.

This year, a special "Topping Off" celebration took place in front of the Trinity Center for Women and Girls in Sports construction site. During a construction project, it is a tradition to have a "topping off" celebration when the highest and last beam is welded into place. In honor of this event, Trinity students, athletes, faculty and staff gathered to raise the U.S. and College flag, marking a very important milestone for Trinity and for the Trinity Center.
