Trinity Alumnae, Trustees, and Honorary Degree Recipients Among Washingtonian Magazine’s “100 Most Powerful Women”

October 13, 2011 - Three Trinity alumnae, three Trinity honorary degree recipients, and three Trinity trustees were named to Washingtonian magazine’s list of the “100 Most Powerful Women” in the October 2011 issue of the magazine.  In a preface to the list, the Washingtonian noted that “It’s been a very good year for women in Washington…. ABC News Producer Perita Carpenter ’02 Shares the “Four C’s of College: Choices, Changes, Challenges and Commitment!”

August 23, 2011 - Trinity graduate Perita Carpenter ’02, producer for the Washington Bureau of ABC News, gave keynote remarks to new students — first-year and transfer students — in the College of Arts and Sciences.  She focused on the “Four C’s of College:  Choices, Changes, Challenges and Commitment!”  In addition to Carpenter’s remarks at the New Student Opening Convocation on August 23, President McGuire addressed the new students, inspiring them by sharing quotes from their application essays in which they wrote about their dreams and aspirations.  The new students also signed the Trinity Honor Code, a tradition that dates back to 1913. Trinity and the Sisters of Notre Dame Featured in Washington Monthly Magazine

July 12, 2011 - The influential role of the Sisters of Notre Dame in shaping Trinity and educating the graduates who pursued public service and other leadership roles is the focus of a feature article in the July/August 2011 issue of Washington Monthly magazine.  In the article, “The Trinity Sisters,” author Kevin Carey notes that “many of America’s most powerful women” graduated from Trinity, including House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi ’62, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius ’70, former member of Congress Barbara Kennelly ’58, U.S. District Judge Claire Egan ’72, Susan Burk ’76, U.S. ambassador for nuclear nonproliferation, and many others. President Patricia McGuire Receives Honorary Degree, Gives Commencement Speech at Liverpool Hope University

January 27, 2011 - President Patricia McGuire received an honorary doctor of education from Liverpool Hope University and delivered the commencement speech at the university’s Winter Graduation on January 26, 2011, in Liverpool, England.  President McGuire was recognized for her exemplary leadership in higher education and her commitment to the transformative power of education. Liverpool Hope University is an ecumenical university that was created though the merger of three colleges, including a college founded by the Sisters of Notre Dame. Trinity Students Sign Honor Pledge at New Student Convocation

August 24, 2010 - Trinity welcomed more than 350 new freshmen and transfer students into the College of Arts and Sciences and today they signed the Honor Pledge, a Trinity tradition that has endured for more than a century.  The students were officially welcomed into the Trinity community at the New Student Convocation by President Patricia McGuire ’74, Provost Virginia Broaddus, College of Arts and Sciences Dean Elizabeth Child, Dean of Students Michele Bowie, and Student Government Association President Morgan Kellman ’11.
