January 27, 2011 - President Patricia McGuire received an honorary doctor of education from Liverpool Hope University and delivered the commencement speech at the university’s Winter Graduation on January 26, 2011, in Liverpool, England. December 7, 2010 - President McGuire announced that the 2010 December Graduation speaker at Trinity Washington University will be Dr. Geraldine Bednash, chief executive officer and executive director of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. She will receive an honorary doctor of letters. Trinity will hold its first December Graduation on Thursday, December 16, at 5:00 pm in the Trinity Center for Women and Girls in Sports. November 9, 2010 - New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg appointed Trinity graduate Cathleen Black ’66 to serve as chancellor of the NYC public school system. Black will be the first woman to head the nation’s largest school system, with a $23 billion budget, 135,000 employees and more than one million students. Black is currently chair of Hearst Magazines; she served as president of Hearst Magazines for 15 years, where she launched O: The Oprah Magazine and published some of the nation’s and world’s largest circulation magazines, including Esquire, Cosmopolitan, Seventeen, and Good Housekeeping. September 27, 2010 - Trinity senior Morgan Kellman ’11 was awarded the prestigious St. Catherine Medal at Cap and Gown Convocation on September 25, 2010. Kellman, a political science major, is from Middletown, Maryland. Kellman has distinguished herself as a scholar, athlete and student leader in many ways. She is currently president of the Student Government Association, is a member of the Trinity Honors Program and is a varsity athlete in three sports. September 13, 2010 - Trinity graduate Reneé Wolforth ’98, an attorney and refugee advocate, will be the featured speaker at Cap and Gown Convocation on Saturday, September 25, at 5:00 pm in the Trinity Center. Wolforth’s interest and dedication to serving the community began when she was a student at Trinity. Wolforth participated in the Campus Ministry community service trip to Apopka, Florida, and served as her class president during her time at Trinity. February 12, 2010 - The U.S. Senate has confirmed two Trinity alumnae, M. Patricia Smith ’74 and Ellen Gloninger Murray ’70, to serve in top posts in the administration of President Barack Obama. Smith was confirmed by the Senate on February 4 to serve as Solicitor of the U.S. Department of Labor, the third highest position in the department. Murray was confirmed on February 11 by the Senate to serve as Assistant Secretary for Financial Resources at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Continue reading
