Ambassador Susan Flood Burk ’76 to Speak at December Graduation

November 10, 2011 - President McGuire announced that the 2011 December Graduation speaker at Trinity Washington University will be Ambassador Susan Flood Burk ’76, special representative of President Obama for nuclear nonproliferation.   She will receive an honorary doctor of laws.   “Ambassador Burk has a distinguished career of more than 30 years of service in international affairs and at the U.S. Department of State, with a particular emphasis on arms control and disarmament, and preventing the spread of nuclear weapons,” said President McGuire.   Trinity will hold its second December Graduation on Thursday, December 15, at 5:00 pm in the Trinity Center for Women and Girls … Continue reading

Trinity Alumnae, Trustees, and Honorary Degree Recipients Among Washingtonian Magazine’s “100 Most Powerful Women”

October 13, 2011 - Three Trinity alumnae, three Trinity honorary degree recipients, and three Trinity trustees were named to Washingtonian magazine’s list of the “100 Most Powerful Women” in the October 2011 issue of the magazine.  In a preface to the list, the Washingtonian noted that “It’s been a very good year for women in Washington…. Senior Tiara Bland ’12 Awarded St. Catherine Medal at Cap and Gown Mass

September 25, 2011 - Trinity senior Tiara Bland ’12 was awarded the prestigious St. Catherine Medal at Cap and Gown Mass on September 25, 2011.  Bland, a human relations major who has a minor in education, is from Windsor Mill, Maryland.  Bland has distinguished herself as a scholar and student leader in many ways. She transferred to Trinity and immediately became an active participant in campus life. Congressional Chief of Staff Maisha Leek ’03 to Give Keynote Remarks at Cap and Gown Convocation on September 24

September 16, 2011 - Trinity graduate Maisha C. Leek ’03 will give the keynote remarks at Cap and Gown Convocation and receive Trinity’s Washington Woman of Genius Award for her outstanding leadership in public service on Saturday, September 24, in the Trinity Center at 5:00 pm.  Leek currently serves as chief of staff to Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA), ranking member of the Commerce, Justice and Science Subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee.  She is one of the youngest chiefs of staffs on Capitol Hill. The Honorable Barbara Bailey Kennelly ’58, Former Member of Congress, Joins Trinity Faculty

ABC News Producer Perita Carpenter ’02 Shares the “Four C’s of College: Choices, Changes, Challenges and Commitment!”

August 23, 2011 - Trinity graduate Perita Carpenter ’02, producer for the Washington Bureau of ABC News, gave keynote remarks to new students — first-year and transfer students — in the College of Arts and Sciences.  She focused on the “Four C’s of College:  Choices, Changes, Challenges and Commitment!”  In addition to Carpenter’s remarks at the New Student Opening Convocation on August 23, President McGuire addressed the new students, inspiring them by sharing quotes from their application essays in which they wrote about their dreams and aspirations.  The new students also signed the Trinity Honor Code, a tradition that dates back to 1913. Dr. Johnnetta Betsch Cole, Director of the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art, to Speak at Trinity’s Commencement

May 9, 2011 - President McGuire announced that the 2011 Commencement speaker at Trinity Washington University will be Dr. Johnnetta Betsch Cole, scholar, educator, humanitarian and former college president. She is currently the director of the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art. Trinity’s Commencement will be held on Sunday, May 22, at 11:00 a.m. Cole will be presented with an honorary doctor of letters. In 2009, Cole was appointed the director of the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art. Trinity Hosts United Way National Education Town Hall

March 31, 2011 - Trinity freshman Anastasia Broadus of Hagerstown, Maryland, welcomed more than 200 educators and nonprofit and business leaders gathered on Trinity’s campus for the United Way National Education Town Hall today.  Broadus told the audience that “I love being a Trinity student because my professors are committed to my education, because I am respected as an individual, and because everyone here is invested in my academic success.”  She then introduced CNN’s Soledad O’Brien, who moderated the event.  In addition to Broadus, 15 Trinity students and four faculty members participated in the program, which was streamed live on the web.
