Commencement speaker Maggie Williams ’77, former Chief of Staff for then first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton, spoke of enduring values, saying “community is built with bricks of compassion and consideration.” She encouraged the graduates to “Find real friendship and cling to it. Show your true self to your friends and if you do they will discover your considerable weaknesses, your deepest secrets and your greatest strengths.  And even knowing what they know they will provide unconditional love and support. ”  Williams was awarded an honorary doctor of laws. In her remarks to the class of 2009, President Patricia McGuire encouraged the graduates to become “courageous leaders for justice and peace, advocates for those who have no voice, exemplars of honor, beacons of hope in the darkest of places.” Read and hear President McGuire’s remarks.
