Dean Bowie Named a TRIO Achiever

meechie_web.jpgDean of Student Services Michele “Meechie” Bowie has been named a TRIO Achiever by the Mid-Eastern Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel. This award recognizes Bowie’s great commitment to ensuring educational opportunity for all students throughout her career, both here at Trinity and previously at Howard University. She received this award at a special TRIO Achievers Luncheon on March 31 in Virginia Beach. TRIO programs are federal initiatives that serve and assist low-income, first-generation college students, to progress through the academic pipeline from middle school to post-baccalaureate programs.

In announcing this award to the Trinity community, President Patricia McGuire wrote, “So many colleagues here at Trinity labor long hours behind-the-scenes to assure the health, welfare, safety and progress of our students. Dean Bowie leads a tremendous team in Student Services who work very hard, often in the middle of the night, on weekends, and at many odd hours. Dean Bowie herself may have to come to campus at 3:00 am, or accompany a student to the emergency room over the weekend, or conduct a residence hall meeting at 10:00 pm. She is known to all of us as someone who is deeply devoted to the success and growth of our students. Her colleagues in Health Services, Campus Ministry and Residence Life work equally hard to ensure that our students have the services they need to live healthy and successful lives while they pursue their studies here.”

Bowie joined the Trinity community in 1997.
