Lexis Nexis Academic Universe - full-text database available to Trinity College students, faculty and staff (log-in required for remote access). This is a rich resource for legal research as it includes case law (federal, state and local) as well as full-text articles from legal journals.

ProQuest Research Library - full-text articles and citations to articles relevant to many subjects including law (log-in required for off-campus access).

General Websites

Cornell Law School Legal Information Institute - a user-friendly guide to legal resources on the Web, including the U.S. Code, the Code of Federal Regulations, as well as "Law About," a legal encyclopedia.

Federal Agency Web Page Index - from Louisiana State University, a well-arranged index of links to the websites of federal agencies.

Findlaw - a comprehensive index of links to case law, codes, legal news, law associations, law reviews, etc. "LawCrawler' permits web searching limited to legal sites. Includes an electronic legal dictionary. Generally recognized as the most comprehensive web index for legal topics.

Global Legal Information Network - another service of the Library of Congress, this site's Guide to Law Online provides links to legal and political information from countries around the world.

Google Uncle Sam - part of the Google search engine, this allows searches limited to U.S. Government-hosted pages (sites with either .gov or .mil suffixes). Because it uses Google's search technology, this is a good place to begin a search for information provided by federal agencies.

GPO Access - this website provided by the U.S. Government Printing Office provides access to offiicial government publications including the U.S. Code, the U.S. Constitution, the Code of Federal Regulations, the Federal Register, the Congressional Record, and the Weekly Compilation of Presidential Documents.

Hieros Gamos - another comprehensive index of links to legal and governmental Internet materials. Includes information on U.S. law, international law, news and a law student section.

Jurist - The Legal Education Network - offers information on legal research, international law, law schools, and much more. Also features an excellent section on Terrorism Law and Policy.

Meta-Index for U.S. Legal Research - provides an easy user interface for performing searches on different Web databases containing legal information.

Municipal Codes Online - an index, assembled by the Seattle Public Library, of county and city codes available on the Internet (including that of the District of Columbia and Montgomery County, Maryland).

Nolo Press - called by Yahoo "America's leading source of legal self-help information," this site contains useful explanations of legal concepts written in non-technical language. The site includes a legal encyclopedia, a legal dictionary, and articles on practical legal topics.

Thomas - a service of the Library of Congress, Thomas provides access to information on pending and recent federal legislation, including the full text of all bills, public laws and legislation.

The Virtual Chase - an outstanding guide to legal research using the web, created by law librarian Genie Tyburski. Contains an annotated guide to Internet resources for legal research, and includes several web research guides on topics such as Government Resources and Company Information.

Zimmerman's Research Guide - part of the Law Library Resource Exchange is an excellent searchable and browsable web legal encyclopedia.

Online Periodicals

Law Library Resource Exchange - a biweekly Internet magazine geared mainly for law librarians, this site may be of value for other legal researchers. It contains articles concerning electronic legal research, the impact of new technologies on legal research, and library management.

Law News Network - an electronic daily legal newspaper that compiles stories from 21 print legal periodicals from around the country; excellent for current legal events research.
