Trinity, a comprehensive university in Washington, D.C., invites applications for a tenure-track position for an Assistant Professor of History beginning Fall 2014. The successful candidate will join a strong team of faculty in Trinity’s historic women’s college, the College of Arts and Sciences. The successful applicant should be able to cover the range of United States political and social history and teach courses at both introductory and advanced levels. A focus on the Atlantic World and/or women’s history is strongly preferred as is the ability to work in an environment in which diverse faculty collaborate to consider interdisciplinary approaches to subjects and in which the general education curriculum reflects a commitment to the liberal arts. Because of Trinity’s focus on teaching excellence, the successful candidate will have a proven record of outstanding teaching, with at least two years of teaching at the university level desirable.
Applicants should have Ph.D. in the discipline to be taught, with that doctorate earned by the position’s start date; strong teaching recommendations; and the ability to present evidence of a commitment to innovative pedagogy that incorporates multiple methods of working with a diverse learning population. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to practice the scholarship of integration while promoting new and innovative ways of teaching and learning Additionally, the successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to integrate and infuse technology into classroom teaching; be open to nontraditional, creative teaching strategies; and be willing to pursue professional development opportunities relevant to the position and in support of student success. Candidates will also advise students and contribute to a vibrant culture of teaching and learning with a student-centered focus.
