Trinity, a comprehensive university in Washington, D.C., invites applications for a full-time Language Specialist position, commencing teaching no later than Fall 2013. This full-time, 12-month staff position supports the College of Arts and Sciences, Trinity’s historic college for women. The position includes teaching and administrative responsibilities, including teaching introductory Spanish courses, working with administrators to staff all foreign language courses, advising students, and assessing instruction and learning as well as collaborating on curriculum development in order to maximize success across the curriculum at Trinity.
The successful candidate will be a vibrant contributor to a dedicated team of instructional specialists who support learning throughout Trinity by working closely with colleagues across the University to support those students studying at the undergraduate level: Trinity also offers undergraduate programming in the School of Professional Studies as well as the School of Nursing and Health Professions. Trinity’s instructional specialists play integral roles in the College of Arts and Sciences’s First Year Experience programming and are fundamental to Trinity’s commitment to preparing students for academic excellence. To that end, the Language Specialist will demonstrate a commitment to student success as well as to developing and modeling innovative pedagogies and instruction across the curriculum. Candidates should be able to identify the ways that emerging modes of teaching and learning in language instruction, including those that use technology, facilitate excellence in undergraduate education.
Candidates must have a minimum of a master’s degree in Spanish or in a directly-related discipline. Candidates must have at least two years of teaching at the university level including teaching Spanish; in addition, candidates should have the ability to assess teaching and learning excellence in the additional languages that Trinity offers while having a strong understanding of the ways that students with second or heritage languages can thrive in English-language environments.
