Trinity, a comprehensive university in Washington, D.C., invites applications for a full-time Mathematics Specialist position in the College of Arts and Sciences, commencing teaching in Fall 2013. This full-time, 12-month position involves teaching in Trinity’s College of Arts and Sciences, Trinity’s historic college for women, while working closely with colleagues across the University to support those students studying at the undergraduate level: Trinity also offers undergraduate programming in the School of Professional Studies as well as the School of Nursing and Health Professions. Trinity’s instructional specialists play integral roles in Trinity’s First Year Experience programming and are fundamental to Trinity’s commitments to preparing students for academic excellence. To that end, the Mathematics Specialist will bring a fundamental commitment to student success as well as to innovative pedagogies and instruction across the curriculum.
The successful candidate will have professional experience in developmental mathematics specifically and mathematics education in general. Responsibilities of the position include offering dynamic instruction tailored to the needs of variant student populations at Trinity; designing and delivering supplemental instruction sessions to students needing additional support, both inside the classroom and in extracurricular settings; and playing an active role in assessing both student proficiency and student learning outcomes, using results to improve student placement and retention.
The candidate must possess at least a master’s degree in mathematics education, mathematics, or a related field. Other requirements of the position include a minimum of two years’ successful experience teaching mathematics at the college level as well as strong written and oral communication skills.
