Trinity in Washington seeks a director of campus housing to manage all phases of student residence life and campus conference housing. Historically known as Trinity College, Trinity today is a small university with 2,700 students enrolled in four academic units, including more than 1,000 students in the full-time daytime undergraduate women’s college, and three coeducational professional schools offering a range of undergraduate and graduate degrees in evening, weekend and online formats. Nearly 80% of Trinity’s students reside in the Washington, D.C. region, and about 90% are African American and Hispanic. Reporting to the vice president for student affairs, with a close working relationship with the vice president for administration and director of conference services, the director of campus housing will have primary responsibility for planning, oversight, staffing, programming and services for students and conference guests. Trinity has 350 beds located in four small residence halls.
During the regular academic year, Trinity’s residential program primarily serves undergraduate women who are students in Trinity’s historic women’s college. Trinity does have some conference guests during the regular academic year, but the primary conference season is May through August.
Trinity expects the director of campus housing to live in residence on Trinity’s campus. The position is a full-time 12 month staff position.
The director will recruit and supervise a staff of part-time professional residence hall coordinators who live on each residential floor. With the director’s oversight, the staff have responsibility to plan and implement programs for residence life, to supervise residents according to Trinity’s policies, and to work with service providers in Facilities, Public Safety, Dining Services, Student Affairs, Academic Affairs and other departments to ensure an excellent, safe and productive learning environment for Trinity students.
The successful candidate will present at least 3 years of increasingly responsible experience in residence life, student affairs or equivalent work in a residential setting. A master’s degree in student personnel or a related field is preferred. Excellent communication ability, skill in managing a diverse population of young women in residence, commitment to Trinity’s mission as a women’s college in the Catholic tradition, and a strong professional track record are essential.
