Trinity, a comprehensive university in the nation’s capital, invites applications for a full-time instructor position in ESL and one of the foreign languages Trinity offers (currently Spanish, Arabic, and French) beginning fall 2012. This position, while not tenure-track, carries the possibility of a long-term contract and offers a candidate the opportunity to be part of a dynamic, committed team offering transformative learning opportunities with a dedicated emphasis on student success.
The successful candidate will work closely with faculty across the University, but particularly in the College, to teach courses specifically designed to enhance non-native speakers’ skills in using English as a Second Language with a particular focus on writing. Teaching responsibilities are in Trinity’s historic women’s college, the College of Arts and Sciences. Additionally, the successful candidate will instruct introductory and intermediate courses in a foreign language. Teaching responsibilities will include delivering three or four courses a semester. The position also entails working with deans and other administrators to develop and sustain a strong ESL support system that supports the multiple heritage speakers who enroll in Trinity’s four collegiate units.
In addition to being dedicated and enthusiastic about teaching, applicants must have the ability to integrate and infuse technology into classroom teaching and be open to nontraditional, creative teaching strategies. The position requires a minimum of two years teaching experience at the collegiate level and a minimal credential of an MA in TESOL or a related field with graduate coursework and/or certification in teaching one of the languages Trinity offers.
Send cover letter, curriculum vitae, and a statement of teaching philosophy to firstname.lastname@example.org. Candidates invited to interview on campus will be asked to provide transcripts, evidence of teaching excellence, and three letters of recommendation.
Review of applications will continue until an appointment is made
