Trinity Washington University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the International Affairs Program. The position is located in Trinity College of Arts and Sciences, the university’s undergraduate women’s college. Trinity seeks a dynamic individual with expertise in contemporary Middle East/African affairs to lead the program. Depending on the depth of experience and credentials of the successful candidate, the appointment may be to either an assistant professor or an associate professor position, commencing in Fall 2011.
Candidates should have at least five years of experience teaching International Affairs at the university level, and professional experience in Middle East or African affairs, international business and trade, public policy or diplomacy will be a distinct advantage. Trinity will also evaluate the candidate’s experience in teaching and working with diverse student populations. Expectations for the position include curricular and course development, including but not limited to new opportunities for the program to foster experiential learning by students. A PhD in International Affairs, International Studies, or a related field is required.
Expectations for tenure-track faculty at Trinity include teaching three courses per semester in the fall and spring semesters, student advising, program and course development, scholarship and professional development, and participation on committees or other forms of service to Trinity. Teaching contexts will include both Trinity’s majors in International Affairs and students enrolled in General Education courses. This position will also work collegially with the master’s program in International Security Studies offered through Trinity’s School of Professional Studies. Courses will include Introduction to International Affairs, Geography of Africa and Asia, Oil and International Affairs, Geography of the Americas and Europe, and Feminization of International Migration. Experience using educational technology in pedagogy and online course management tools (Trinity uses Moodle) is a plus.
