Trinity in Washington, a comprehensive university in the nation’s capital, seeks a head librarian who will hold the title Associate Provost for Library Services. This associate provost will lead the transformation of Trinity’s physical and virtual library in keeping with Trinity’s strategic initiatives. Trinity emphasizes excellence and innovation in teaching and learning across a full range of liberal arts and professional disciplines in undergraduate and graduate education through the master’s degree. Reporting directly to the provost, the associate provost will work closely with the deans, faculty and administrative colleagues to administer the existing library collection and related services while participating in the planning and implementation of new designs for the future library and academic center at Trinity.
The head librarian is immediately responsible for planning and supervision of all library services including acquisitions and collection development, development and management of library and information technologies and online library services, library budget and resource allocation, library personnel management and development, and ongoing assessment of the quality and effectiveness of library services. In cooperation with the Associate Provost for Academic Technology and other members of the provost’s team, the head librarian will also participate in planning and managing the creation of digital content, oversight of the Digital Media Lab and other matters related to servicing online learning and the use of digital materials in instruction and research.
Trinity is an associate member of the Washington Research Library Consortium, and the associate provost will work with WRLC, the Library of Congress, and other regional resources to strengthen the ability of Trinity’s library to meet all contemporary academic demands.
Candidates for the associate provost must have at least the M.L.S. and a minimum of five years in senior library management positions, preferably in a comparable private institution that emphasizes teaching. The successful candidate will have strong leadership and communication skills, be an excellent writer, and have a track record for creative engagement with faculty, staff and students in supporting their work in teaching and research.
