Six Ways That Trinity Makes the Dream of College a Reality for D.C. Students

Trinity is fully committed to the academic and personal success of its students and provides the financial and academic support the students need and deserve. This commitment takes hard work and time from staff and faculty and it takes significant financial resources.

Substantial Financial Support

Trinity awarded more than $1.6 million in financial aid to D.C. residents in fall 2006. These students also received $800,000 in PELL grants, $345,626 in D.C. TAG funds, and $280,000 in D.C. LEAP awards. Read more about the financial support that Trinity provides to D.C. residents.

Comprehensive Academic Support

Trinity’s faculty are committed to educating urban students, many of whom are the first in their families to attend college. Trinity’s faculty hold students to high academic standards, while providing them with support as they master college-level work.

Trinity provides students with individual academic support – Writing Center , tutoring services, disability support services and individual advising by both full-time faculty and professional advisors.

Extensive Health and Social Services

Trinity provides professional health care, mental health counseling and spiritual support to students as they face a range of health and family issues.

Trinity launched a new online resource in fall 2006, Social Services Network @ Trinity, that provides a comprehensive directory of services that students need: food, shelter, immigration services, legal services, employment assistance and much more.

First-Class Athletic and Fitness Facilities

All students at Trinity have full access to the new, $20-million athletic facility, the Trinity Center for Women and Girls in Sports. Trinity believes that academic success is enhanced with good health and fitness.

Trinity: Where Women Come First

Trinity’s College of Arts and Sciences is the university’s undergraduate women’s college, where there is a priority on the education of women, the development of women’s leadership skills, and a focus on the academic and career success of women. Hundreds of D.C. students benefit from this focus on women.

A Long-term Commitment to Student Success

In Trinity’s recent Middle States Accreditation, the Visiting Team commended Trinity for its service to the District:

…the University has embraced a population of students coming from many races, cultures, socio-economic backgrounds, religious and personal experiences. Trinity serves this diverse student population in a rich mix of undergraduate and graduate programs and has emerged as an increasingly recognized and appreciated resource for the District and the Washington regional community. Beyond such effective direct service to its students and region, the University has achieved an incalculable contribution to the American higher education enterprise and the American national scene by demonstrating ways to give new life to historic mission.
