Tutoring
We provide tutoring in most subjects offered at Trinity. Tutors are undergraduate students who excel in academics. They are trained and directed by full-time professional staff and attend training meetings to remain current in tutoring techniques. Tutors are available to help clarify assignments, and to illustrate ways to correct problems. Tutors cannot do assignments, solve problems for students, or help with take-home exams. Tutors adhere to the Trinity Honor Code.
We offer content tutoring on a one-to-one basis open to all students who have been recommended by their instructor, advisor, or individuals who have discovered they need assistance to be successful in their classes at Trinity. Some examples of our tutoring services are:
- PSYC 101
- COM 290
- SPA 101, 102
- MAT 101, 103, 123, 125
- PHIL 103
- BIO 101
- FNAR 101
- CHEM 111
Appointments
Students who are interested in receiving tutoring should contact Academic Services Center and fill out a “Tutoring Request Form”. This will assist us in matching a student with a tutor. Faculty may also refer students to receive tutoring and should encourage them to completing a request. Students may receive up to 3 one hour appointments per week. Students may receive additional tutoring at the discretion of the Director.
If during the course of an academic term there is a need to provide group tutoring for special classes, the Director will hire, train and supervise tutors who will be available to offer group tutoring in diverse subjects. Those tutoring sessions will be offered at a time and place that is convenient for all students involved.
Cancellations
We request that students call their assigned tutor 24 hours in advance to cancel or reschedule an appointment. This will assist us in contacting other students and let them know that the time slot is now available. If a student MUST cancel an appointment in less than 24 hours, we expect to receive notification so that the tutor may provide other services to students in our center. While unforeseen conflicts do occur, we must be fair to all students. Therefore, if a student misses 3 appointments without giving us notice, their future use of tutoring privileges may be jeopardized
Although our tutors have been recommended by faculty and trained, sometimes tutor and tutee styles aren't compatible. Talk to the Director if you feel you would benefit from working with a different tutor.
Confidentiality
The content of tutoring sessions is a private matter for Trinity students unless we have your written permission to share this information.
Certification
The Academic Services Center is internationally certified by the College Reading and Learning Association.
