Faculty Guide for Special Testing Services

General Information

Students may take makeup, retake, and special-circumstances tests in the Academic Services Center in Library 103.  You and your students may take advantage of our services if a student misses a mid-term, final or other important test in the course of the semester.

Please note:  If a student has documented disabilities they should make special arrangements for accommodations with the coordinator for Disability Support Services - 202-884-9681 in 103 Library.

You may work with your student(s) in advance and communicate information as to when your tests will be available in the Academic Services Center - (begin/end dates), how much time you have allotted, and what aids (notes, calculators, diskettes, etc.) they should bring.

Make sure you provide the Academic Services Center and your student(s) contact information in case they have questions about your test(s).

Students must present photo identification to take exams in the Assessment Center.

The staff in the Center cannot accept homework assignments or special projects from your students - remind them of your own policies and the use of the Red Box.

Procedures

If you would like to take advantage of this service, please complete an Academic Test Request Form (ATRF).

Submit the completed Academic Test Request Form (ATRF) providing details about your test. It is important to provide all of the information requested, particularly the names of the students who are eligible to take the test.

Type/write your name at the top of each test. Provide one copy for each eligible student.

The staff in the Academic Services Center will adhere strictly to your written test instructions. Make sure they have all of the information necessary to provide your students with timely and efficient service. For example, specify testing time for students and identify any assistive-technology equipment they may require.

If detailed testing instructions are necessary, provide a separate copy of the instructions for your students to read and follow.

To help ensure the integrity of the College's academic testing program, we ask that you (or your authorized designee) personally deliver your tests to the office of Academic Support in 350 Main. We cannot ensure the security or timely receipt of confidential test materials that are mailed to the office.

To avoid any inconvenience to your students and to ensure the staff in the office of Academic Support has sufficient time to process your ATRF(s), we ask that you submit your test(s) at least one workday in advance of the authorized "begin date."

When the office is closed or your time is limited, we can make arrangements to pick-up and/or drop-off the materials.

Please give each student you refer to the office of Academic Support a copy of the Student Guide for using the Academic Support Special Testing Services

The Academic Services Center adheres to Trinity’s Academic Honor Code - students are expected to follow the Honor Code guidelines as described in the Honor Code handbook.

Retrieval of Academic Tests

To ensure the integrity of Trinity’s academic testing program, the staff in the Center will maintain the strictest security and confidentiality of the records you provide to our office.  The staff will collect the materials from students and will return them directly to you based on the agreement made within our offices.

We will ask that you sign the ATRF from indicating you have received the materials back.

Evaluation

Please complete the "Services Evaluation Form" - it is our goal to provide the highest quality services for faculty and students and we must collect data to improve our services.
