Who are the Tutors?
The tutors are undergraduate students who are trained and directed by full-time professional staff. They can help you in a variety of subjects including science, mathematics, history, philosophy, psychology, Spanish, sociology, theology, and study skills. All of the tutors attend monthly training meetings to help them learn the best ways to help you. Meet the tutoring staff!
What about help with Math or Science?
Our tutors can provide assistance for a wide range of math and science courses. Math and science tutors have excelled in the courses and can help review the mathematics skills needed in courses such as chemistry, marketing and economics.
Do you have help for language courses?
Peer Tutors can help you in acquiring foreign language skills. In addition, the professional staff can help you to acquire better memory and vocabulary acquisition skills.
My study skills are rusty. Can you help?
Besides our tutoring services, the professional staff can help you to learn how to: read a college textbook efficiently; prepare for and take tests; take better notes; or manage your time. These services are available through a series of workshops or through individual conferences.
What if I have a disability and need accommodations?
The Director of Academic Support and Career Services facilitates all accommodations for students with disabilities. If you have a physical, cognitive or emotional disability, you should bring documentation of your disability to the Director of Academic Support and Career Services. Upon receipt of your documentation, she will work with you to formulate an individual learning plan that will enable you to fulfill your academic potential. Documentation of your disability must be on file with the Director before accommodations can be made. Documentation guidelines for students and health professionals are provided. Ideally, requests for accommodations should be made before the semester starts or as soon as possible thereafter.
Do I have to make an appointment to get help?
We recommend that you schedule your appointments so that you can get tutoring at a time convenient for you. Just stop by the office, call (202) 884-9647 of fill out the "Academic Tutoring Request Form" to make an appointment. Tutoring sessions usually last half an hour or an hour. Regular weekly appointments can be arranged by mutual agreement between the tutor and the tutee.
