Student Profile

Each year, Trinity's three schools enroll more than 1,600 women and men of all ages from across the country and around the world. Nearly 3,000 teachers enroll annually in Trinity's Professional Development Workshops.

Faculty

Trinity's faculty includes 55 full-time faculty; 100% of whom have earned doctorate or equivalent degrees.

Special Academic Centers

Trinity is home to several prestigious centers of academic distinction, including the Intelligence Community Center for Academic Excellence, and the Haiti Project.

Facilities

Trinity's facilities are housed in eight buildings, including a library with state-of-the-art information and knowledge access, science laboratory, computer center, an art gallery and studios, music practice rooms and four residence halls. In 2003, Trinity opened the Trinity Center for Women and Girls in Sports, a $20 million state-of-the-art athletic facility.

Special Study Opportunities

Trinity offers an honors program, leadership forums, study abroad options and internships for academic credit. Academic skills are enhanced through the Academic Support and Career Services Center, Academic Computing Center, Writing Center and Math and Science Tutorial Program. Students have access to nearly 20,000 courses through the Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area.

Internships

Trinity students take advantage of a variety of professional internship opportunities throughout the Washington, D.C. area. Recent internship sites include the White House, Congressional offices, Children's Defense Fund, the Washington Mystics, Black Entertainment Television, Cable News Network, The National Zoo and Department of State.

Career Programs

Trinity offers comprehensive career planning services, internship opportunities, and Alumnae Career Network through the Academic Support and Career Services Center.

Athletics

Trinity is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, Division III. Students compete at the varsity level in basketball, lacrosse, soccer, and volleyball, and enjoy a variety of intramural sports. The Trinity Center for Women and Girls in Sports, a state-of-the-art athletic facility with a pool, gymnasium and fitness center opened in 2003.

Student Life

More than 25 student organizations, including three publications, Film Club, Psychology Club, Black Student Alliance, and Women in Math, Science and Engineering. Students are involved in community service projects, and take full advantage of Washington, D.C. Students live and learn according to an Honor System. Campus Ministry serves students of all faiths.

Honor Societies

Trinity is proud to be among the 10% of the nation's colleges and universities to be granted a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa - the nation's oldest academic honor society. Trinity's Chapter was established in 1971. Trinity has chapters of other national honor societies: Alpha Sigma Lambda (adult learners), Beta Kappa Chi (math and science), Lambda Pi Eta (communication), Psi Chi (psychology), and Pi Sigma Alpha (political science).

History

Trinity was founded in 1897 by the Sisters of Notre Dame as a Catholic liberal arts college for women. Today, Trinity continues the founders' commitment to offer students of all faiths a quality academic program, a value-centered education, and a focus on the intellectual development of each student. Trinity offers a full range of undergraduate and graduate programs for students of all ages, with a special emphasis on women's education in the College of Arts and Sciences, and professional development in the coeducational School of Professional Studies and School of Education. On September 10, 2004, Trinity became a university.

Affilated Programs

Trinity also educates thousands of students each year through its non-degree and affiliated programs, including Professional Development Workshops for teachers, Upward Bound and Education for Parish Service. In addition, the Pan American Symphony Orchestra is in residence at Trinity.
