Master of Education
Whether or not you currently teach in a classroom, Trinity has a Master of Education degree program to meet your needs. Credentialed classroom teachers can pursue their M.Ed. in the Literacy & Reading program, or in the Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages program (TESOL). If you do not have your teaching credential (e.g., educators in trade organizations, education advocates), Trinity offers an Educating for Change program to suit your needs.
All of Trinity’s M.Ed. programs are designed for educators who wish to pursue an advanced degree in curriculum and instruction; further, all are accredited by NCATE, the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.
Trinity’s convenient course schedule of seminar-style evening and weekend classes is perfect for busy education professionals. With smaller average class sizes, and a dedicated faculty, Trinity offers you a level of one-on-one support not found at larger institutions.
Concentrations
Trinity offers three concentrations within the Master of Education degree program:
- The Educating for Change concentration prepares you for a leadership role in changing our world through education! This program focuses on developing curriculum and instruction techniques through exciting courses like Current Issues in Urban Education and Conflict Management and Resolution. In this program, you will make frequent use of instructional technology and enrich your understanding of covered concepts through hands-on field experiences.
- Trinity’s Literacy and Reading concentration can help you advance your career and combat the problem of rising illiteracy by specializing in the teaching of reading! Designed for experienced and credentialed classroom teachers, this program is state approved and nationally recognized by the International Reading Association (IRA). Through coursework focused on the teaching of reading to K-12 students, this Master of Education program prepares you for certification as a Reading Specialist.
- In the Teaching English to speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) program, you will learn to teach English to people who speak other languages, using classroom strategies and field experiences. TESOL credentials are in demand in today’s multicultural classrooms and are also of great benefit if you are interested in traveling and teaching in other countries! This two-year program (including summers) is designed for experienced, credentialed classroom teachers, is state-approved, and is nationally recognized by the TESOL education association. TESOL is also offered as an M.A.T. degree program, providing a good alternative if you do not currently have your teaching credential.
