Master of Arts in School Counseling

Trinity’s program in school counseling provides specialized study and supervised field training dedicated to preparing individuals for careers as professional counselors in elementary and secondary schools. Our program is state approved and meets certification requirements of the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia, and students may apply for certification in other states as well. You will receive individual attention to your interests and goals from faculty members who are active professionally in their areas and who are committed to social justice and are thus engaged with culturally diverse persons and communities.

Trinity’s program is accredited by the National Council on the Accreditation of Teacher Education (N.C.A.T.E.) and consists of comprehensive and integrated graduate coursework as well as laboratory and supervised field experiences that will provide you with professional competence in counseling children, adolescents and families of diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Graduates are qualified to provide individual and group counseling, to implement assessment and consultation services and to develop, direct and evaluate comprehensive school-based counseling services.

Counseling Urban Students Track

Trinity’s Counseling Urban Students program is a special­ized track in school counseling and provides supervised field training dedicated to preparing individuals for careers as professional counselors in schools, other academic and community settings and to providing for the psycho-social and emotional growth and needs of young people. Candidates will receive individual attention to their interests and goals from faculty members who are active professionally in their areas and who, as instructors committed to social justice, are engaged with culturally diverse persons and communities.

Our program will prepare you to take the Licensed Professional Counselor (L.P.C.) examination and to meet state certification requirements of the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia, and you may apply for certification in other states as well.
