Meet Philonda Johnson '07
Philonda Johnson is a pre-K teacher at Washington’s KIPP DC Academy.
She is a Teach for America scholar, and through a KIPP Fisher Fellowship, Philonda will become the founding principal of an early childhood KIPP school in Washington, DC.

Education
The old saying goes, “Give a man a fish; feed him for a day. Teach him to fish; feed him for life.” The gift of education changes lives in surprising ways; learn the skills to become a teacher or other education worker, and you have the power to help people improve their lives.
At Trinity, students pursue teacher preparation programs with emphasis on elementary education. Best of all, after finishing your bachelor’s degree, you can continue your training at the graduate level at Trinity’s NCATE-accredited School of Education.
Why Study Education?
Teachers can make a real difference in other people’s lives, and many students who major in education get jobs as teachers. However, a degree in education also prepares students for other life-changing jobs outside the classroom including human services, counseling, and student affairs in higher education (e.g. admissions and student activities). An education degree is great preparation for a master’s or doctoral program in a variety of fields including counseling, psychology, social work, and community services administration.
