INT 405 (3 credits)

This interdisciplinary course prepares Trinity students for participation in the Maya Model Organization of American States [MMOAS]. The Maya Model OAS is named after Mr. Edgar Maya, from the Organization of American States Public Information Office, who created, organized and managed this unique program. The annual MMOAS session is organized by the Inter-American Institute for Diplomacy, and conducted with the cooperation of the Organization of American States.

The MMOAS is a simulation of the proceedings and deliberations of the actual General Assembly, addressing the most pointed issues affecting this hemisphere and debating them according to diplomatic rules of procedure.

Leadership and teamwork concepts will be taught and practiced in real experiences during the week of this Model Assembly, which provides the opportunity to lead and to take risks, and to develop commitment through mutual responsibility and a common vision.

Students will interact with other delegations while learning how to network with and provide information to key groups and individuals, as well as to appropriately use negotiation, persuation, and authority in dealing with others to achieve common goals for all the American nations.
