Receipt of the Certificate

The Trinity College Certificate in International Migration: Women’s & Children’s Issues will be awarded upon completion of the minimum required coursework (and - for full-time undergraduate student enrollees, only – a supervised internship), provided the student has met the following standards:

  • A “B” grade or better in the required core course and the capstone course.
  • A “C” grade or better in all elective courses.
  • Satisfactory completion of the language requirement by students provisionally enrolled in the program.

Program Duration

Students enrolled in the certificate program may work toward completion of the program at their own chosen pace, taking courses during Fall and Spring semesters in day, evening or weekend formats. To facilitate students who wish to work intensely to attain the certificate, occasional courses may be offered in accelerated formats during the Trinity College week-long Winter and May terms, and as accelerated evening or weekend sessions during the Summer semester.
Students enrolled in sessions throughout the year may be able to complete all certificate program requirements within one year from entering the program.

Additional Information

1. The program's core course (INS 500) is offered each semester. Elective courses have come on stream beginning with the 2002 Spring Semester.

2. Prior to enrolling in the program, students must submit an application form to the Office of Admissions and be interviewed by the Program Director. Application forms are available through the Office of Admissions or at the certificate program's page at the Trinity College web site, www.trinitydc.edu.

3. Certificate program fees are consistent with Trinity's standard graduate rate. That rate for the Fall 2001 semester is $485 per credit hour.

4. Financial Aid: Financial aid is available for students who already hold a baccalaureate degree and are enrolled as Graduate students in the certificate program. The financial aid is in the form of loans through the Federal Stafford Loan Program. Under this program, post-graduate students who enroll in at least six (6) credit hours a semester are eligible to apply for loans that cover tuition costs. Advanced undergraduate students enrolled in the program are not eligible for financial aid unless also enrolled in a degree- seeking program. For additional information and application materials, please contact the Trinity College Office of Student Financial Services at (202) 884-9530 or by email at FinancialAid@trinitydc.edu.

5. All 15 hours of required course work toward the certificate must be undertaken at Trinity College. The required core course and the capstone course generally will be offered only once a year. Most elective courses will be offered only once a year, also. Enough flexibility is built into the program, however, to offer courses more than once a year if there is sufficient demand.

6. Undergraduates transferring to Trinity College from other institutions of higher education may meet certificate program prerequisites by coursework successfully completed at the institution from which they are transferring.

7. Opportunities for students to fulfill minimal certificate program requirements in languages other than Spanish or French through intensive study at Trinity College will be developed according to demand and need.

8. Limited opportunities may exist for superior students fully enrolled in the program to gain on-the-job experience working at an international program site. Students who are accepted into a work abroad program can earn three elective credits toward the certificate program, following satisfactory completion of their work abroad experience.
