Development and Scholarship Committee
March 7, 2006
The Committee
discussed two items: Conference attendance policy and assistance for the
Faculty.
1. The Committee
discussed the need for clarification of the policy for providing financial
assistance for attending professional meetings. On behalf of the Committee,
Deborah Litt agreed to draft a letter to
Dr. Blanshan requesting clarification of the policy.
2. The committee then
focused on the need for assistance to
the faculty in areas that will enable them to do their best possible work. As
one committee member stated the question, “what do we need that we do not yet
have?”
In answering the
question, the committee identified the following unmet needs:
a.Clerical support for program
chairs
b. Reduced course load for Chairs in
programs with large numbers of majors
c. Assistance in developing grant
proposals. Members noted the difficulty in developing grantsmanship given the
demands of program planning, assessment, and unplanned meetings.
